2020 Jeep Cherokee Safety Features
The Cherokee already offered several driver-assist features. These are high-tech systems designed to help you stay aware of your surroundings when you take to the streets. In 2020, the Jeep Cherokee will add in even more systems, like:
- Lane Departure Warning-Plus
- Forward Collision Warning-Plus
- Rain-sensing windshield wipers
These are part of the available Advanced Safety Group and work together to notify you of potential hazards. For example, if you stray from your intended lane of travel, Lane Departure Warning-Plus will provide a visual and audible warning and gently steer you back into line.
Forward Collision Warning-Plus alerts you to a potential collision up ahead. If detected, it’ll issue a warning to slow down or stop. It can even provide Automatic Emergency Braking if necessary, to try to avoid an impact.
Finally, rain-sensing windshield wipers automatically turn on and adjust their speed based on the rate of precipitation on the windshield.

The 2020 Jeep Cherokee will give you three different powertrain options:
- 3.2L Pentastar® V6
- 2.0L turbo I-4
- 2.4L Tigershark® MultiAir® 2
With the V6 engine, you’ll get an expected towing capacity of 4,500 pounds while the I-4 engines deliver some impressive efficiency—up to 31 MPG on the highway.
All three can be equipped with a Jeep 4-wheel drive (4WD) system and the Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System. This lets you choose from up to five different modes based on your specific challenge: Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud, and available Rock.
Design Updates to the 2020 Jeep Cherokee
Something you’ll probably notice when you see the 2020 Cherokee is that its exterior has received a few refinements. It’s slated to feature a lightweight aluminum hood that, when combined with the unique waterfall grille design on the front, brings the Jeep Cherokee exterior into the new decade.
It’s also going to have available front bi-LED projector headlamps to help improve visibility, while certain trim levels will have 19-inch wheels available to increase ground height and improve off-roading capabilities.
There will be two new exterior colors added to the lineup of favorites:
- Spitfire Orange
Inside the cabin, you’ll find an additional four cubic feet of storage space that’ll allow you to pack even heavier before your next camping trip, ski outing, or biking adventure.
The Uconnect® infotainment technology will return, complete with available touchscreen displays as well as Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration.
