With exhilarating engines under the hood, both the 2021 Jeep Compass and the Nissan Rogue are ready to hit the pavement and help you have an enjoyable ride to work or while running errands. However, if you’re looking to highlight your weekends with unforgettable adventures, you’ll want to turn to the available drivetrains in these SUVs.

The Rogue can be armed with available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, which helps you to tackle a range of weather conditions as well as light off-roading conditions. If you’re looking to cruise over rocks and through thick mud, though, you’ll need something more rugged, like 4-wheel drive (4WD).

The Compass has two 4WD systems for you to select from: Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low. The latter is crafted specifically for some of the most extreme off-road conditions, including navigating boulders and fording up to 19 inches of water.

Without a 4WD system in the Rogue, you won’t want to stray too far off the paved path.

Dial Into Adventure

When you opt for a 4×4 system on your Jeep Compass, you’ll also be treated to the Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System. This feature has five available modes, including Snow, Sand, and Rock, helping you explore a range of conditions.

The available AWD system on the Nissan Rogue also comes with selectable drive modes, like Snow and Off-Road. Once again, though, there’s no special mode for rock crawls. So, if bouldering is in your next treks plans, you’ll want to stick with the Compass.

Safety Features in the 2021 Jeep Compass and the Nissan Rogue

While the available drivetrains in the Compass and the Rogue enable you to explore far and wide, it’s also important that you stay protected when trekking off the back trails. These SUVs come standard with hill start assist to help you summit small inclines. As your car starts to climb, this feature will hold the brake pressure when you switch from brake pedal to accelerator to aid in preventing rollback.

When you’re ready to come back down, the Jeep Compass lends a hand with the available Hill Descent Control. This feature monitors throttle, speed, and braking to help you smoothly and gently descend steep hills.

Unfortunately, the Nissan Rogue isn’t available with a comparable feature, so you may have a tricky climb to the bottom of those hills.

Protection on the Open Road

Of course, you need to journey on the highway to get to your thrilling off-road trails. When you’re navigating on the paved path, the following systems are available in the 2021 Jeep Compass and the Nissan Rogue to keep you safe and secure:

Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking: This feature measures the distance between your SUV and frontal obstacles, warning you when you’re too close. If needed, it applies the brakes to aid in avoiding a collision altogether.
Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go: This maintains a set following speed and distance between your car and the car ahead, slowing and accelerating as traffic demands. If the vehicle ahead grinds to a halt, so will your SUV, instantly restarting when movement resumes.
LaneSense® Lane Departure Warning Plus: A system that reads the lines on the road to detect when you may be unintentionally leaving your lane, helping you stay on course and on track.
Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Path Detection Systems: These systems keep an eye on your side blind zones, letting you know when another vehicle is approaching, so you can safely make a lane change. When backing out of a parking spot, they alert you to detected vehicles, so you can confidently be on your way.

As you can see, these systems are sure to instill peace of mind as you explore the freeway.

However, if the rain starts to fall, you may feel more secure behind the wheel of the Compass, since it’s available with rain-sensitive windshield wipers. This feature detects raindrops and automatically turns the wipers on once it starts to pour.

The Rain Brake Support System also comes standard to help you in slick conditions. It helps keep the front brake rotors dry on wet roads to ensure firm stops, no matter how hard the rain is coming down.

The Rogue, on the other hand, doesn’t have either of these systems to lend a hand in rainy weather.

Whether you’re rocking out to your road trip playlist or catching up on the latest podcast, everything will sound clear and refined through the six standard speakers in the Compass. You may have a harder time hearing your tunes in the Rogue, though, with only four speakers being standard. If you want access to six speakers, you’ll need to upgrade to a higher trim level.
