2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs Toyota 4Runner
If you’re in search of a midsize SUV, the 2018 Grand Cherokee and the Toyota 4Runner deserve your attention. These two vehicles share many similarities that are appealing for SUV shoppers, but they do have some differences to consider when choosing between them.
Drivers in Penn Yan, Watkins Glen, and Geneva can discover the important attributes between these midsize SUVs with this 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs. Toyota 4Runner comparison.
The Grand Cherokee is available with a V6 with 295 horsepower, a V8 with 360 horsepower, a turbodiesel with 240 horsepower, a V8 with 475 horsepower, and a supercharged V8, all paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 4Runner comes with a V6 with 270 horsepower and a 5-speed automatic transmission.
Both vehicles are available with 4-wheel drive, though the Jeep Grand Cherokee can be equipped with several different 4-wheel drive systems. Quadra-Trac I®, Quadra-Trac II®, and Quadra-Drive II® are available, all with Selec-Terrain® selectable drive modes. The Toyota 4Runner has a few features with its 4-wheel drive system to enhance its capability, but nothing like that of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Toyota 4Runner are designed for adventure, but they both prioritize passenger comfort and roominess. Each vehicle can haul five adults and all their gear, complete with comfortable seating and plenty of headroom and legroom in all seating positions. The 4Runner can feel a little low-rent inside, due to all the hard plastics and cheap-looking materials, but the Jeep Grand Cherokee is well-built and high-quality.
Behind the rear seats, the Jeep Grand Cherokee offers 36.3 cubic feet of cargo space, which expands to 68.3 cubic feet with the seats folded. The Toyota 4Runner has an expansive cargo bay as well, plus a sliding cargo floor for easier loading. That doesn’t quite measure up to the Jeep Grand Cherokee, however, which offers a power liftgate, front-folding passenger seat, and padded cargo hold. None of these convenience features are offered by the Toyota 4Runner.
With multiple trim levels, packages, and standalone options, no vehicle has as many customization options as the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Whether you want a sensible commuter, an off-road dominator, a hot-rod SUV, or a little bit of everything, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has a trim level with the right combination of features for your needs. By comparison, the 4Runner doesn’t offer any customization options, and it limits you to the predetermined trim level’s features, though they are well-equipped.
Touchscreen infotainment, navigation, leather upholstery, premium sound, and smartphone integration are all available for the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Toyota 4Runner, as well as many other luxury and convenience features, and advanced safety technology. Both infotainment systems are advanced and capable, though the Toyota Entune® App Suite infotainment system can be difficult to learn and menu intensive.
