Ram 1500 Towing Features
While the Ram 1500 is fully equipped to tow a large trailer, it also offers plenty of features to help keep your cargo in line with your truck. To learn more, read our full vehicle review!
For example, Trailer Sway Control monitors what you’re towing and uses corrective braking and throttle to keep everything steady and centered. You’ll also know when it’s safe to change lanes with Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path and Trailer Detection.
Going further in depth about that, with dual wide-band radar sensors in the taillamps, the system scans the blind spot zones behind the vehicle to help ensure confident maneuvering, while automatically accounting for the length of your trailer.
The available Trailer Reverse Steering Control allows you to use the Trailer Steering knob located in the center stack to control your trailer as you back up while the system controls the truck’s steering wheel.
You can also rely on your truck to help deliver a safe trip when you’re transporting cargo over steep terrain, too. Hill Descent Control maintains a safe, slow speed when you’re on your way down, whether you’re hauling a big camper or a couple dirt bikes.
The available Trailer-Tow Power-Fold Mirrors with an available 360° Surround View Camera use five cameras to provide a complete picture of the truck’s surroundings—especially helpful when aligning your truck with a trailer. Available Trailer Camera Wiring allows you to place up to two auxiliary cameras on or in your trailer for a direct feed to the Uconnect® touchscreen.
The Ram 1500 also offers an integrated Trailer Brake Controller so drivers behind your truck will know when you’re slowing down, turning, and stopping.
While maneuvering with a trailer is now easy, hooking up to it is just as convenient. An air suspension system keeps your hitch and trailer level while a Rear Back-Up Camera helps you back your truck into place.
Not to be forgotten, the available Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring system provides a live pressure reading for up to four trailers and up to 12 tires per trailer on a high-definition Driver Information Digital Cluster Display. Accompanying this is the available Trailer Light Check that lets you know all your trailer lights are functioning properly.
A feature rarely thought about is the air suspension system. The available class-exclusive Active-Level™ Four-Corner Air Suspension System automatically lowers the vehicle at highway speeds to help with drag and offer maximum efficiency. This lowering capability can also help with accessing the bed and cab, entering parking garages, and hitching a trailer.
Aerodynamics is just as important since you want to have the wind at your advantage, not the other way round.
With best-in-class aerodynamics, the body of the 2021 Ram 1500 is the model of efficient engineering. Its elevated hood deflects air from the wiper area while the roof’s design directs air to the rear spoiler. Thanks to its active aerodynamic features, this truck gets a .357 drag coefficient.
